DAVIS, Ruth Powell

Ruth P. Davis, 99, Lafayette and formerly of Linden died 8:18 p.m. Sunday in Home Hospital, Lafayette.  Mrs. Davis owned a grocery store at Linden from 1939-53.  She also worked in food service in the residence halls at Purdue University.  Her memberships included United Methodist Church, Linden; current member of Bethany Presbyterian Church, Lafayette; 50-year plus member Order of Eastern Star; 52 year member of American Legion Ladies Auxiliary; former member of Home Hospital Auxiliary and Linden-Madison Township Historical Society.  She was born July 13, 1902 in Fountain County to Hiram Columbus and Jennie Ellen Livengood Powell.  She married F. Irvin Davis on Dec. 24, 1925 in Fountain County., He died Jan 19, 1980.  Survivors include a son, James I, Lafayette; a daughter, Margaret Ann Barton, Poland; six grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; 12 great grandchildren and 14 stepgreat-grandchildren.  A brother, Frank Powell is deceased.  Funeral services are scheduled 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in Hahn Funeral Home, Linden with Revs. Ann Williams and Howard Allen officiating.  Burial will be in Waynetown Masonic Cemetery.  Friends may call 4-8 p.m. today in the funeral home.  Memorials may be made to Linden United Methodist Church or Bethany Presbyterian Church. - kz
